Teresa Seals
A self-taught artist, Teresa works primarily with the rich natural pigments of soft pastel. Teresa is a passionate advocate of this sometimes under-rated medium. She loves the tactile nature of the pastels, using multiple layers and blending techniques to give a dynamic three-dimensional quality to her paintings. Suffolk born and bred, Teresa now lives at Hollesley, near Woodbridge, working from her garden studio. Her studio windows overlook heathland and fields where she sees wild fallow deer every day and, on tiptoes, can even see the sea! She loves the way her home county provides both a heritage coastline and a rich and varied countryside with all the wildlife that it contains.
Taking inspiration from the natural world, her work focuses on wildlife and landscapes and some portraiture. After ten years as a farmer and fifteen years teaching secondary English, she now works from her Suffolk studio as a full time artist.
Particularly drawn to wildlife and animal portraits, she focuses on bringing character and life to each of her artworks. She has recently been exploring how pastel can convey the life and movement of water with her seascapes.
Her passion and talent with soft pastel has led to her becoming an Associate Artist for Unison Colour and she now uses her teaching experience to offer tuition, weekly classes, demonstrations and workshops to introduce others to this versatile medium. Teresa participates in the annual Suffolk Open Studios and has exhibited both locally and in the UK.
