Tony Homer
Tony Homer has a BA Hons in Fine Art and a PGCE in Art Education. Since retiring from teaching, Tony has focused on his own painting and exhibiting. Working from the landscape is important to him and he likes to use sketchbooks and colour studies to collect information, taking these back to the studio to create larger paintings that explore the themes that arise from the earlier studies. He likes overlaying glazes and working texture and pattern into the surface of his paintings. Compositions are often changed or amended to achieve the feel of a place. Drawing and painting is key to all of Tony’s work and he encourages people attending workshops to draw from life. He always brings his own sketchbooks full of early drawing and colour studies, to show the development of ideas and composition used in his work. His classes are full of art history references that are relevant to the demonstration. Workshops take on a similar format, including some practical explorations of the theme selected. Tony is an active member of Granite Elements – an Artists’ group based in South-East Dartmoor.
