Sally Ellis
Sally Ellis is a contemporary artist from Bewdley, Worcestershire. She breathes life into everyday domestic scenes with an abstract eye, describing her work as ‘abstracted familiarity’. She intuitively layers paint, scribbles and plays with mark-making, sanding and scraping spontaneously to reveal beauty and spark her composition. Sally’s work has been collected across the UK since 2006 and has earned recognition at prestigious Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 2023 and 2024, and the Society of Women Artists at the renowned Mall Galleries in London in 2023.
Sally's art is deeply influenced by her background in nursing, family life, her affinity for vintage pottery and ‘tat’, and her enduring admiration for rule breaking artists Shirley Trevena and Mary Fedden RA. Through her work, she explores art's power to transcend perceptions, evoke emotions and untold narratives.
Sally teaches her unique process in her popular classes; they are an invitation for both beginners and experienced artists to discover the liberating freedom that comes from shedding expectations and embracing the joy of spontaneous creative expression.
