After graduating Bournville College of Art Richard worked for a number of years within the graphic design industry. He then refocussed on a career in fine art, particularly teaching regular painting classes and demonstrating to clubs and Art Societies across Worcestershire and beyond. Briefly relocating to Scotland where he taught and exhibited with the Gatehouse of Fleet Art cooperative, Richard has returned to teaching regular art classes at Avoncroft Art Centre in Worcestershire. He covers drawing and painting lessons in a wide variety of mediums to all levels of students and includes as broad a range of subject matter as possible. Encouraging individual enjoyment and artistic development is a key part of his classes.

As a professional artist his main area of interest is in painting nature, landscape and wildlife, in watercolour, pastel and oil. He likes to vary the medium according to the subject at hand and continuously enjoys experimenting with colour and technique to attempt to achieve his goal.
He exhibits his original artwork and prints at his studio and at various galleries around Worcestershire and the UK as well as on his website.
Richard has a passion for painting and drawing and takes great pleasure in passing on his knowledge of methods and techniques to all who attend his classes and demonstrations. He believes that observation of shape, scale and tone are fundamental in an individuals growth as an artist and includes these elements in the majority of his lessons; above all though, it’s important to have fun.
