Peter Keegan

Peter Keegan is a professional artist living and working in North Buckinghamshire. Trained at Cardiff School of Art and working in oils, Peter follows traditional techniques but uses them in a way to depict the people he meets in a modern and original style. His aim in portraiture is to always create a painting or drawing that reflects the subject's likeness and personality, as well as capturing those special elements which make the subject truly "them". Peter also paints and exhibits figure paintings, local landscape and still life paintings. In addition to painting, Peter also creates portraits in charcoal.

Peter presents the podcast Ask an Artist: the podcast dedicated to offering free advice and guidance about the business side of being an artist. To date, he has recorded and released over 100 episodes. Peter is an elected member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society and the Oxford Art Society.  He is also a brand ambassador for Michael Harding Oil Paints and Rosemary & Co brushes, sets of which he sells via his own website.

In 2020, Peter was made the first ever Artist in Residence at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. To celebrate their 10th Anniversary, Peter was commissioned to paint a number of large-scale canvases depicting life inside the theatre. However, in March 2020 all theatres across the UK closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and thus, the residency was halted. What was once a bustling building full of life, movement and colour, went dark. By twist of fate, Peter’s residency has poignantly captured the theatre industry pre, during and post-pandemic. His work reflects an era in the industry never experienced before. The exhibition of the work is available to view, free of charge, along the theatre promenade.

Peter works with several local galleries and for portraiture, works mainly on commission. Some of Peter's work can be found in public collections as part of the Public Catalogue Foundation.
