Jill Iliffe is a professional artist based in Hampshire, near the Surrey border.  Jill gained a BA in Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art and then an MA in Drawing at the University of the Arts London. She has a wealth of experience in art demonstration and teaching, having worked in arts education for many years, culminating in becoming Head of Adult Education.  In 2018 she resigned to take the leap to become a full-time artist, which was a scary but exciting moment.  Jill now also teaches art to adults, whilst also working in her studio on art commissions and for galleries. Jill’s practice is about the connection between the viewer and the artist, whether it be a feeling of calm as in her still life studies, a sense of recognition between viewer and sitter in portraits or a memory invoked in her more narrative pieces.  Jill works in a traditional way, building up layers, working on detail, creating a three-dimensional effect and treating her medium and subject with respect. She wants the eye to not be overwhelmed with extraneous information and she tends to keep her backgrounds clean and contemporary.  Jill works both from life and photographs; often both for one piece.
Jill has exhibited widely and she is represented by commercial galleries across the country. She has also exhibited in several notable museums including the V&A, The People’s Museum Manchester, Rugby Museum, Watt’s Gallery and Artist Village and also at well-known venues such as The Mall Galleries, The Menier Gallery and Bankside Gallery.
In 2019 the National Heritage Fund purchased her painting for the permanent collection of The National Football Museum.  In 2020 Jill took part in Sky Portrait Artist of the Year.
Her demonstrations show her techniques and approaches to creating her pieces and her workshops also allow attendees to try their hand under her expert guidance.
