Jenny Sexton
Jenny is a wife, mother and un-domestic goddess. She creates emotive, representational art with a sense of story from her studio by the River Crouch in South Fambridge, Essex. Although she was good at art in school, she was encouraged to go into a career in banking instead. She continued to dabble in arts and crafts on the side, dipping in and out of creative projects whenever time allowed. Then a few years ago, the universe decided to knock a little louder. She awoke one morning to discover that she had partially lost her memory. She learned first hand how precious memories are and you don’t fully appreciate that until they are gone. But as painful as that was, in losing many of her memories, she also regained her creativity and her life’s purpose. She discovered that you don’t need to remember how to paint, you just need to know how to feel.
As well as exhibiting and demonstrating here and there, she now paints portrait, figurative and landscape commissions. Jenny believes that commissioning art should be fun and exciting for all, so she always involves her clients in every magical step of the process, mindfully educating them as she takes them along on the artistic journey with her. She is therefore proud to call herself a ‘Memory Maker’.
She is usually found with paint underneath her fingernails, a dog (or three) by her feet and a mug of painter’s tea in her hand (which is essentially a Redbush tea with an accidental splash of colour).
She especially loves the buttery and translucent properties of oils so this is her favoured medium for demonstration. Her signature style aligns realism with varying degrees of expressionism, telling the tale by layering on textural marks and accents of vibrant colour.
