Hashim Akib
Hashim began his artistic career as an illustrator working in both editorial and design for over fifteen years. His list of clients included regular contributions to major broadsheet newspapers and advertising campaigns including Smirnoff, Esso, Toni Yoghurt, W H Smith and stamp for the Royal Mail. This provided valuable experience in developing a backbone of competent drawing and painting techniques, creating conceptual ideas and a professionalism towards the creative arts.
Having left illustration behind he became more interested in developing his own paintings and started exhibiting, demonstrating and running painting workshops in the UK and abroad.
Hashim has won numerous awards, including in 2009 the SAA Artist of the Year. He worked with the art manufacturer Daler Rowney in their relaunch of the System 3 Acrylic range producing paintings for the ad campaign and demonstrating the versatility of the paint at various events and on live television.
He is the author of several books including ‘Vibrant Acrylics’, ‘Painting Towns and Cityscapes’, ‘Artist Painting Techniques’, ‘Painting Portraits in Acrylics’ and his latest book published by Search Press ‘The Acrylic Companion’. He has been featured in various art publications including The Artist, Pratique des Arts, Art of England and has been a regularly contributor to the Artists and Illustrators magazine for over 10 years. He is represented by several galleries in the UK and has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, New English Art Club and Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries in London. Hashim has also created several art courses online including the largest online platform Domestika where his Acrylic course became an instant best seller.
