Alison G Saunders
Alison’s favourite saying is “I don’t like boring beige” but she loves both bold and muted colour. In her world, colour is not just a visual sensation; it is a language of emotions. Employing circles to represent hugs she celebrates the beauty in human experience.
Stressing that circles are more than just shapes, for her they are embraces; visual manifestations of the warmth, love and tenderness we share.
Working with acrylic paint, creating art is her way of breathing life into feelings and expressing love, joy and the myriad of emotions which shape our very existence.
Alison’s inspiration comes from a desire to bring joy into everyone’s lives. Add in her love of nature, understanding of emotions, love of music as well as the timeless beauty of Pre-Raphaelite art, she has everything she feels she needs to link with and create pieces that resonate with a sense of ethereal connection.
When making her work, each stroke is intentional, a beautiful dance between paint pigments and 24 carat gold. Having recently trained with one of the country’s top gilders, she has been able to turn the circular hugs into golden hugs. Using real gold leaf adds a feeling of luxury and opulence, elevating each piece to a realm where emotions shimmer and gleam.
Alongside her painting, Alison is also a keen printmaker and a journal maker. In printmaking she produces limited-edition screen-prints, collotype prints, mono prints and lino prints. Her printmaking tends to be more realistic images.
Through her artistic practice, Alison resourcefully repurposes leather which would normally end up in landfill by using it to make the covers for her beautiful, hand-crafted journals. Her ‘experiments on paper’ are incorporate as linings for the journals.
