Nicky Hunter
Nicky Hunter is a professional watercolour artist based in Buckinghamshire.
Well known for her signature, large scale, contemporary watercolour florals but also inspired by a variety of subjects. Mostly inspired by nature and ignited by colour, Nicky aims to capture her subjects in a vibrant & expressive style.
Exploring the luminescent & lucid qualities of watercolour in combination with pure delicious colour are key elements in Nicky’s art works: believing wherever there is a colourful subject illuminated with interesting contrasts in light & shadow, there is potential for a beautiful painting.
Her passion for the delightful yet challenging medium of watercolour is evident in her artworks; also through her dynamic and informative painting demos. When hosting watercolour workshops her skill and creative flair is always inspirational, helping students of every level create better artworks. She teaches locally at her studios in Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire and is a guest tutor at Big Sky Arts, Watershed Studios and Ardington School of Art.
The development of her painting & illustration skills & foundation for her love of florals comes from working as a textile designer for over 2 decades, creating printed patterns for international fashion designers & well known British & global brands.

Subjects: My work is inspired by nature, ignited by colour. Creating contemporary watercolour artworks that radiate with colour and light is my passion. Florals are my specialism, both botanical and illustrative, to vibrant and lively. An impressionistic and bold style of painting in watercolour is what I’m most renowned for. I often work seasonally, painting spring florals, followed by big, blousy, summer blooms. Then in the Autumn, maybe some other organic inspiration from nature such as fungi or hedgerow finds. Winter may bring birds, landscapes or figures.
Will travel to: Based in North Buckinghamshire, Nicky is happy to travel to East Anglia and parts of the South East and the Midlands region (Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Worcester, Gloucester and the Cotswolds).
