Mick McNicholas

After a varied career as a musician and digital designer, Mick came back to art several years ago, determined to finally become a Fine Artist. He began by going back to basics and initially spent two years focussing solely on drawing, with only a 4B pencil. He then moved onto charcoal and once he embraced its particular qualities, came to love it. A lot of artists seem to have an ambivalent relationship with charcoal, which is why Mick likes to show in his demonstrations and workshops the versatility of the medium, through innovative techniques and approaches. Mick specialises in Portraiture and Life Drawing, running a weekly life-drawing session in Wokingham, near where he lives. In addition to his own teaching practice, he also organises workshops for other artists.
