Matt Waruszynski

I am an artist from Northamptonshire specialising in figurative work and portraits. I’m really interested in exploring how the body and face tell the story of our lives. Our body keeps the score of all of our traumas, joys, struggles and triumphs and I seek to use painting and drawing as a way to understand and tell these stories.
I’m also fascinated by the materiality of paint which I like to apply thickly, in an impasto style and as such I see my method as sculpting with paint. With a background in animation, I am drawn to fast, energetic marks to give a sense of life and movement in my work.
I also like to teach and get others involved in painting and drawing. In 2015 I set up Life Drawing MK and I also teach regularly at Westbury Arts Centre and am involved with Drink Draw Northampton.
