Mark Fennell

After graduating from Amersham School of Art, Mark went into a career in advertising and marketing, working as an art director until leaving the industry to pursue his ambition of becoming a professional artist. He started painting professionally in 2001 and was elected a member of The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 2007. He is also an elected member of Buckinghamshire Art Society and Oxford Art Society, as well as a professional member of the SAA.
Mark works predominantly in oils, specialising in portrait and figurative painting. Commissions to date include Antony Worrall Thompson and the Lord Mayor of Birmingham. He also enjoys the challenge of painting outdoors, working at speed to capture fleeting dramatic light effects which can disappear in minutes.
He has won numerous awards for his art, most recently The Clairefontaine Award and one of The Artist’s Exhibition Awards at the 2021 TALP Open exhibition; The Oxford Art Society 2021 members exhibition Honorary Members Prize and The Winsor and Newton painting award at The Royal Society of British Artists annual exhibition 2020. Mark has shown at The Mall Galleries with both The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Society of British Artists.
