Ian McManus
Ian McManus is a professional Watercolourist, well known for his dynamic watercolour painting demos , creating lively paintings that fascinate the viewers as they evolve with speed and skill on the paper. He is also a highly sought after watercolour tutor.
His style of direct application of paint on top of a lively yet well structured sketch, with no overlay of washes often associated with watercolour, creates contemporary artworks with interesting compositions and strong focal point. He is inspired by an array of subject matter taken from everyday life but is particularly well known for lively street scenes bustling with figures, harbours and boats, landscapes and other scenes often brought to life by figurative content.
Based in Suffolk, Ian will travel across East Anglia and parts of the South East, the Midlands region, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Gloucester and the Cotswolds for demonstrations and workshops.
He believes that anyone who is passionate enough about painting can learn to paint; it’s a continual learning experience, but very rewarding when it all comes together and you finish up with a painting you’re happy with.
Ian tutors residential courses for some well established art holidays providers such as Big Sky Arts, Dedham Hall and Alpha Holidays where much of his teaching is plein air and often visiting beautiful locations and painting intuitively in the moment on sight leads to inspiration for studio based art works for his exhibitions.
