Fiona Hooper
Fiona’s passion lies in painting landscapes in her distinctive and contemporary style. She works predominantly in oils using a painting knife, to capture the peace and tranquillity of the wild, natural places that she loves to discover, including trees, mountains, water and coasts in her work. Directly connected to these visits, she creates paintings in which she aims to capture the unique atmosphere and light of the scene and the feelings that she experiences while immersed in the landscape.
Wherever possible Fiona prefers to work directly from the subject, painting in the open air in the places that she loves, interpreting the sights, sounds and even the smells in paint on canvas or board. But, when this is not possible, her sketches, photographs, and memories serve as the inspiration for her paintings. Recently she has also been incorporating gold and silver leaf in her art.
Her work has won various awards and can be found in collections both in the UK and internationally, including the USA, Canada, France, Ireland, Malta, Australia, and Switzerland.
Fiona lives and works in West Sussex, UK, where she is often to be found on location with her easel and paints, and her travels around the globe have also been a rich source of inspiration and subject matter.
As well as occasionally accepting commissions for landscape paintings, creating lasting and treasured memories of special places beautifully interpreted in her unique style, Fiona is also an accomplished professional portrait artist, having completed many successful commissions of both people and animals.
Fiona is a sought-after demonstrator, and having learned so much from other artists is always pleased for opportunities to share her knowledge and experience with others, helping them progress along their own artistic journeys.
