Debbie Hinks

After studying at Kingston Polytechnic Debbie had a wonderful career as an illustrator, concentrating on figurative images. For the past 15 years, she has been working as a full-time artist and tutor, enjoying teaching in person and online, often painting a live model. Debbie is equally happy working in pastel, acrylic, watercolour or ink. It’s the immediacy of ink and using charcoal that really appeals, as does pastels which are great for depth of tone and characterisation of faces.
Debbie can complete a portrait in acrylic, watercolour or pastel in an hour,  working live, pushing the boundaries of colour in skin tone, adding to the challenge. Debbie runs her own weekly life drawing classes near her home in Brighton and also leads painting holidays abroad.

Media: Chalk pastels, Charcoal, watercolour, Ink - I work quickly and often do two different images in a two hour demo.

Subjects: Portraiture is my favourite, I love drawing any figurative image, fashion illustration too. Portraiture in pastel is usually more detailed, my fashion illustrations or portraits in watercolour are more loose in style, I am very flexible.
