My work reflects the rugged scenery of the landscape, either in the context of wild places or in the nature of the South Pennine landscape where I live. Here, I draw my inspiration from the remains of the pre-industrial revolution era where farming and hand loom weaving were once the mainstay in this part of the world over 250 years ago. Now, redundant grit stone buildings weather the passage of time amongst crumbling enclosure walls and ancient pastures. It is this or the open mountain and moorland terrain that inspires me to explore the spirit of historical connections using layers of colour, texture, shapes and patterns applied with energy and feeling.

I am a professional landscape painter working in watercolour and acrylics. Many of my subjects are sought amongst the moors and hills of my native West Yorkshire and beyond. Throughout my painting life I have been made a Companion of the International Guild of Artists, an Associate of the British Watercolour Society, a Professional Associate and advisory panellist of the SAA, president of the Halifax Art Society, as well as an advisory panellist for Artists and Illustrators magazine. In 2013 I won the Pennine Wealth Management Award for 'Best in Show' at Holmfirth Artweek and exhibited my work in the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. I regularly contribute to The Artist magazine and have four practical art books published to date. I have been teaching and lecturing on the subject of watercolour and acrylic painting for the last fifteen years.

My demonstrations are enhanced through the use of an overhead high definition camera and powerful projector. The result is that everybody is guaranteed to see exactly what I am doing with the painting. Every demonstration is delivered afresh and I never paint the same scene twice! You are guaranteed an exciting event. As one of many art group members said recently: "I came home all inspired and painted the next day at home - unusual for me"

I demonstrate in Watercolour or Acrylic and will travel around 100 miles from his base in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
