Mick McNicholas

After a varied career as a musician and digital designer, I came back to art several years ago, determined to finally become (after a long hiatus) a Fine Artist. I wanted to go right back to basics and so initially spent two years focussing solely on drawing, with only a 4B pencil. I then moved onto a medium I had never felt completely comfortable with before, charcoal. However, once I embraced its particular qualities, I came to love it. A lot of artists seem to have an ambivalent relationship with charcoal, which is why I like to show in my demos and workshops the versatility of the medium, through innovative techniques and approaches.

I usually do a portrait demonstration, utilising a number of techniques, then introduce a variety of further approaches/techniques over a day's life-drawing workshop.

I also run a weekly life-drawing session in Wokingham, regularly teach life-drawing, and organise workshops for other artists. For more information please see my website www.mickmcnicholas.co.uk

I am happy to visit groups within a 60 mile radius of Wokingham in Berkshire.
