About the Artist:
Melanie's main artistic influences come from working outdoors, indeed, most of her paintings are produced at least in part on location, even in winter, with light and colour playing a major role in her work. Favourite subjects tend to involve water. She particularly enjoys painting by the Thames in Central London and views from the banks of the River Wey in Surrey. Melanie has written several books published by HarperCollins and produced a DVD with APV Films.

Art Groups:
Melanie's lively demonstrations in both oils and acrylics offer plenty of inspiration and encouragement to "pick up your brushes and have a go". If you would like to invite her to give a demonstration, critique or workshop to your local art group, call ART PROFILE on 01234 764232.

Personally-Tailored Workshops:
Melanie is happy to come to your art group and create a bespoke workshop to suit the needs of your members. If you wish to try oils, then she can also supply paints, mediums and brushes so no-one need worry about extra upfront costs just to have a go at something new.

Sketching Cruises for Groups
New for 2018 are fully tutored and supported Day Cruises along the beautiful River Wey in Surrey. Starting and finishing at Dapdune Wharf – the National Trust venue in the centre of Guildford. The boat is run by a fully insured skipper from Surrey Outdoor Learning Centre so no need to do anything boaty, just enjoy the views with time to sketch and paint en-route and when we moor up over lunchtime.

Courses and Holidays:
Alongside her lively demonstrations to art groups, Melanie runs regular classes in the Spring and Autumn at West Horsley in Surrey. Melanie returns to Marlborough College Summer School again this year from 23rd July to run two fully supported oil painting courses. Don’t be Afraid of the Darks! – available using either oils or gouache Learn how to create stunning paintings full of light, by paying more attention to the darks in your composition. Melanie looks at tones and contrast to see how to use the darks in your paintings to create a strong sense of light and shade.

Gouache, the Forgotten Medium?  Following on from the launch of Melanie’s own range of gouache colours, this demonstration introduces you to the different ways you can work with this exciting and yet sometimes forgotten medium. She shows how you can paint onto board as well as watercolour paper, add texture using her unique “Artists Putty” and even combine gouache with both watercolour and pastel for some interesting mixed media work.
