About the Artist:
Melanie's main artistic influences come from working outdoors, indeed, most of her paintings are produced at least in part on location, even in winter, with light and colour playing a major role in her work. Favourite subjects tend to involve water. She particularly enjoys painting by the Thames in Central London and views from the banks of the River Wey in Surrey. Melanie has written several books published by HarperCollins and produced a DVD with APV Films.
Melanie's lively demonstrations in both oils and acrylics offer plenty of inspiration and encouragement to "pick up your brushes and have a go". If you would like to invite her to give a demonstration, critique or workshop to your local art group, call ART PROFILE on 01234 764232.
Melanie is happy to come to your art group and create a bespoke workshop to suit the needs of your members. If you wish to try oils, then she can also supply paints, mediums and brushes so no-one need worry about extra upfront costs just to have a go at something new.
Courses and Holidays:
Alongside her lively demonstrations to art groups, Melanie runs regular classes in the Spring and Autumn at West Horsley in Surrey. If you fancy sketching with a difference, she is hosting two separate Days based at Dapdune Wharf on the banks of the River Wey in Guildford this summer – Wednesday 16th August is a land-based sketching day, Thursday 17th August we step on board a 65ft boat “Angel Blue” for a sketching cruise along the river. An ideal opportunity to try your hand at working “plein air” but with plenty of help and support. The boat has a full kitchen, toilets and central heating and comes complete with crew so you can simply sit back and sketch. Melanie returns to Marlborough College Summer School again this year from 16th July to run two fully supported oil painting courses. However, if you fancy going to France for a change, she will be hosting a French painting week in September, supported by Marlborough College. Details of all these events can be found by visiting www.melaniecambridge.com.
