Botanical, Flowers, Vegetables, Colour Mixing

After a career as a knitwear designer I was lucky enough to be able to turn my passion for watercolour into a full time occupation. Now living in Warwickshire, I regularly exhibit with the Birmingham Society of Botanical Artists and show my paintings at Warwickshire Open Studios. I am also a member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society and have work in the collection of Shirley Sherwood.

Botanical doesn’t always mean floral: vegetables, fruit and bark are my latest passions. Each new plant is a new challenge to understand its anatomy and to capture its character using layers of transparent watercolour.

I love to share my subject with others, showing people a methodical, step-by-step approach which they can easily digest and understand. I have a relaxed, chatty approach and encourage the audience to ask questions. I always demonstrate from live plant material and show a variety of watercolour techniques from wet-into-wet to dry brushing. Using as few as six paint colours, I can also show how to mix colours without making mud!

I am available for 2 hour demonstrations or one-day workshops and am happy for the group to suggest a subject matter. I am willing to travel within a 50 mile radius from Leamington Spa. Further distances can be discussed but may incur extra travel expenses.
