Clifford uses a wide variety of media, pushing them to their limits to create atmospheric studies of his favourite subject - old buildings.

Regarding his work, Clifford says:

"Old buildings fascinate me, they are alive with the ghosts of the many people who have inhabited them and left. I feel their presence, the walls envelope you and transport you to another time. Their faces show the ravages of the passing years, which only add to their dignity and beauty."

"Many are now gone and some will soon be with us no more. I feel it important to record their existence, they are part of our heritage and for many of them this will be the only record that they ever existed."

"Regarding the Control Towers and other ex-military establishments - in my opinion they should be listed buildings. Those serving in them sacrificed families and home life for several years. For some it was the ultimate sacrifice. They stand as testaments of the consequences of man's inability to live in peace with man."
