Arnold Lowrey has been painting for nearly 35 years, in watercolours, oils, acrylics and soft pastels.
He has regular exhibitions of his paintings in the South Wales area and has had work accepted and exhibited in the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
In 2000, he won the Portrait Prize in the annual exhibition of the South Wales Art Society at Turner House, Penarth. The previous year, he won overall First Prize together with best acrylic, best portrait and best still life.
In addition he was chosen as the public's choice in both the 1999 and 2000 Christmas Art Exhibitions at St David's Hall, Cardiff, which is part of Cardiff County Council. He also exhibits regularly at the Washington gallery, Penarth.
He recently won first prize in the Taliesin Competition of the South Wales Art Society.
He is a painting demonstrator for major art material suppliers e.g. Winsor & Newton, and regularly provides painting demonstrations to Art Societies throughout South Wales and Southern England.
He now runs weekly painting courses in the Cardiff area.
Residential courses are tutored at Urchfont Manor, near Devizes, Wiltshire, The Hill centre, Abergavenny, The Farncombe Estate in Broadway, Cotwolds, and The Boscombe Spar Hotel, Bournemouth and will be tutoring a painting holiday in the Algarve, Portugal in March 2007 and a series of workshops in Texas, USA in September 2007.
He has written three books on painting (2 watercolour and one acrylic) published by Search Press Ltd, one of which has also been translated into Italian, Dutch, Russian and Arabic. They are sold worldwide. Approaching 100,000 to date.
Four DVDs have been produce on his techiques in Watercolour and acrylics and a further 6 have been made to be issued from December 2006.
The subjects of his paintings vary from landscapes to still life, portraiture, abstracts etc in watercolours, oils, pastels and acrylics.
He tries to use good shapes and design combined with an emotional feeling for the subject utilising both light and colour.
Currently, he is a Professional Associate of the Society of All Artists.
He was Chairman of the South Wales Art Society from 1999 - 2002.
For the last 15 years he has been a full time artist based at Cardiff.
In his spare time, he enjoys his computer and jazz music.
His paintings are used each year for the Ty Hafen Children's Hospice corporate Christmas card and in addition, regularly supports the British Heart Foundation and Shelter with paintings.
